Biography

James Bell worked in a variety of genres and built up a diverse and reputable career. Bell began his acting career with roles in such films as the crime flick "I Am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang" (1932) with Paul Muni, "Private Detective 62" (1933) and the dramatic adaptation "White Woman" (1933) with Charles Laughton. He also appeared in the George Arliss romance "The King's Vacation" (1933), "My Friend Flicka" (1943) and "So Proudly We Hail" (1943) with Claudette Colbert. His film career continued throughout the forties in productions like the Spencer Tracy drama "Sea of Grass" (1947), "Sealed Verdict" (1948) and the western "Roughshod" (1949) with Robert Sterling. He also appeared in "Streets of Laredo" (1949) with Macdonald Carey. Film continued to be his passion as he played roles in the James Stewart drama "Strategic Air Command" (1955), "Texas Lady" (1955) and the dramatic adaptation "Sincerely Yours" (1955) with Liberace. He also appeared in the James Cagney western "Tribute to a Bad Man" (1956) and "A Day of Fury" (1956). Bell last acted in "Outlanders." James Bell passed away in October 1973 at the age of 82.
