Biography

James Bolam was an actor with a strong presence in film throughout his career. Bolam started off his acting career mostly in film roles, appearing in the Alan Bates dramatic adaptation "A Kind of Loving" (1962), "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner" (1962) and the comedic adaptation "Otley" (1969) with Tom Courtenay. He also appeared in "In Celebration" (1975) and "The Likely Lads" (1976). He had a part on the television special "As You Like It" (1978-79). He continued to act in productions like "Seaview Knights" (1994) and the Ralph Fiennes dramatic adaptation "The End of the Affair" (1999). He also starred in the TV movies "The Island on Bird Street" (1998-99) and "Death of a Stranger" (2000-01). He also lent his voice to the animated adaptation "The Plague Dogs" (1982) with Warren Mitchell. Film continued to be his passion as he played roles in "Stella Does Tricks" (2000), "It Was An Accident" (2001) with Chiwetel Ejiofor and "Clockwork Mice." He also worked in television during these years, including a part on "Born and Bred (BBC)" (2001-05). He also had a part in the TV miniseries "He Knew He Was Right" (2003-04). Bolam also acted in "To Kill a King."
