Biography

First discovered by audiences as a confident, fresh-faced comic who was proficient at playing outrageous characters and sending up famous celebrities, actor Jamie Foxx cut his teeth on the small screen when he joined the popular television sketch comedy, "In Living Color" (Fox, 1990-94) after its first season. Not satisfied with being confined to strictly comedy, Foxx surprised many when he began displaying considerable talents both as a dramatic actor and as a classically trained musician. He offered glimmers of things to come with a strong performance in "Any Given Sunday" (1999), which allowed him to show off the gridiron prowess he developed as a star high school quarterback. While he continued to perform stand-up comedy in several cable specials, Foxx reached the top of his career with a defining and unforgettable performance as music legend Ray Charles in the biopic, "Ray" (2005), which earned Foxx the best notices of his career and an Academy Award. Foxx continued to surprise audiences with action movies like "The Kingdom" (2007), heartrending dramas like "The Soloist" (2009), and wild genre films like "Django Unchained" (2012), all of which reminded people that Foxx would not be easily defined.

"People tell me racism is just more subtle in places like Los Angeles and New York. Well, I prefer subtle sh*t. You ain't got to let me know you don't like me, I already know that." – Foxx to Newsweek, July 28, 2004

.

"He has that thing about him that no matter who is in the room, you feel like he's connecting with you especially. He's always paying attention." – Regina King, Foxx's co-star in "Ray" to People magazine, Nov. 29, 2004

.

Foxx on what woman liked best about him: "That I'm confident and funny. I got the jokes and everything like that, and I think that if you're confident, and you're poppin' with Kanye West and you had the No.1 song in the country ['Gold Digger'], that makes it a little sexy." – from People magazine, Nov. 28, 2005

.

"I look at it like this: Either the man makes a success or the success makes a man. If you're already a man, then success is just the cherry on top." – Foxx to People magazine, Nov. 15, 2006
