Jamie Parker to play adult Harry Potter in stage show

The History Boys star Jamie Parker is to play a grown-up version of fictional wizard Harry Potter in the upcoming West End stage play.
Author J.K. Rowling, who wrote the novel series which inspired the successful film franchise, announced in June (15) that she was working on a two-part production titled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
The play is set 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and focuses on Harry and wife Ginny Weasley’s son Albus as he starts school at Hogwarts.
On Monday (21Dec15), it was announced that Jamie Parker will be replacing Daniel Radcliffe as Harry. Parker, who has appeared in films including The History Boys and Valkyrie, will be joined by Noma Dumezweni, replacing Emma Watson as Hermione Granger and Paul Thornley as Rupert Grint’s character Ron Weasley.
Dumezweni is currently starring in Linda at London’s Royal Court Theatre after Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall dropped out, and Thornley has had small roles in Les Miserables and London Road.
Rowling says in a statement, “I’m so excited with the choice of casting for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child… I can’t wait to see Jamie, Noma and Paul bring the adult Harry, Hermione and Ron to life on stage next summer.”
The show, which will be told in two parts on separate nights, will open for previews on 7 June (16) at London’s Palace Theatre.
