Jarvis Cocker and Bez wreck BBC antiques show with anarchic tactics

Jarvis Cocker and Happy Mondays star Bez’s antics meant producers of BBC show Bargain Hunt had to reshoot the antique selling challenge.
The Pulp frontman and their keyboardist Candida Doyle are set to go head-to-head with Bez, real name Mark Berry, and his Mondays bandmate Rowetta Idah for a special BBC Music Day episode of the programme later this month (Sep18).
However, Bargain Hunt host Charlie Ross tells Britain’s Radio Times magazine that the unruly rockers’ antics meant producers had to consult the rulebook, as they worried one team had cheated in their attempt to profit from selling trinkets at auction.
“Suffice to say I had to refer to the Bargain Hunt rulebook,” he says. “I think it’s the first time in history that we’ve had to look at it.”
Revealing that the stars had to be dragged back for reshoots, producer Paul Tucker adds: “We had to deliver this show quite quickly after we filmed it, and of course we weren’t expecting to have to do the ending again. Although it wasn’t expected, it certainly added an interesting twist and another layer to the show. I guess it’s what you might expect from a bunch of rock ‘n’ rollers.”
Jarvis also reportedly caused a stir by refusing to wear the official Bargain Hunt fleece – required attire for ordinary contestants on the show.
The unlikely quartet’s antiques hunting face-off will air on 28 September as part of the BBC Music Day festivities. To mark the day, which is aimed at promoting interest in music among the U.K. public, Kylie Minogue has also recorded station announcements for U.K. railway terminals.
