Until recently, we’d thought that doing completely random s**t that has little to do with acting was entirely James Franco‘s gig. But now, The Muppets scribe Jason Segel has reportedly entered WTF territory by penning a young adult trilogy about kids facing their fears. Undoubtably, this will be made into an ABC Family series or a movie starring an up-and-coming British heartthrob by 2015.

According to VH1, Segel — who, like Franco, is a leading member of the Judd Apatow club — wrote the script the novels are based on back when he was 21. His friend, director Jonathan Demme, says there’s a bidding war among publishing houses for the series, though Segel thinks that we’ll be seeing it on shelves later this year.
For now, no official plot or character details have been released, other than rumors of a Goonies-slash-Labyrinth tone to the books. If that’s the case, we might be into it. Let the casting rumors begin… now! (I’m hearing Nicholas Hoult?)
