Jean Paul Gaultier taps Beth Ditto for new T-shirt

Singer Beth Ditto has teamed up with Jean Paul Gaultier on a statement T-shirt.
The Gossip frontwoman is no stranger to Jean Paul Gaultier designs, having strutted down the French designer’s runway during his S/S 11 Paris Fashion Week show. Now though the pair have taken their fashionable friendship one step further, by collaborating on a new version of Gaultier’s iconic ballet bra corset.
“Jean-Paul is the most generous, positive person, he truly loves women of all sizes and ages and knows how to make everyone feel gorgeous,” Beth gushed in a statement. “I love that this shirt is funny and chic at the same time.”
She also spoke about how the venture was a natural one, especially given the designer’s history of casting plus-size models. The tongue-in-cheek design features an oversized black T-shirt as the fashion canvas, with a large print of the famous corset on the front. The back features the other side of the corset, complete with its ribbon fastening where actual adjustable corset laces are strung through the back of the shirt.
Gaultier was just as complimentary of Beth, who sports a short blonde curly hairstyle for the photos. She also wears bright red eye make-up and matching lipstick, as she pouts in the high end garment.
“Big girls are beautiful and Beth is super beautiful! Long live the beauty with shapes, boobs and bottoms,” he smiled. “This is a new concept, a loose fit corset. And Beth fits it perfectly.”
The Beth Ditto ♥ John Paul Gaultier T-shirt is available now. In February (16) Beth will also roll out her very own clothing line, designed for the plus-size market.
