"I walked into the Drama Society and they were holding readings for 'The Madwoman of Chaillot.' I read for one part, they gave me another. Then I got more parts. Then one day Julie Harris came to town and I interviewed her for the school paper. It was she who told me to write to Yale about attending the Drama School.I didn't want to go to college and get a degree and all that, so I wrote the letter . . . And I was accepted! Julie Harris was the youngest female ever accepted at Yale. I was the second youngest." --Joan Van Ark in DAILY NEWS, May 22, 1995
