Biography

Jodelle Ferland was only 12 years old when she landed the role of Alessa, the vengeful, isolated spirit in "Silent Hill" (2006), and her uncanny maturity and sparkling intelligence helped make the video game adaptation a surprise success. Though she was a new face for American audiences, Ferland was already a seasoned actress, having worked in her native Canada since she was just 2. With other roles in such high-profile projects as the blockbuster "Twilight" series, Terry Gilliam's oddball fantasy "Tideland" (2004) and the clever stop-motion spookfest "ParaNorman" (2012), Ferland established herself as a keenly talented actress and a horror genre mainstay.

"I think my favorite thing about playing the darker roles is that it’s not me. I love playing roles that are completely different from who I am in real life." -- from ShockTillYouDrop.com, September 25, 2012.

.

"I do think I tend to be typecast, but it doesn't necessarily bother me. If an actor repeatedly plays a certain type of role, then they will become known for that. I don't exactly set out to only play creepy characters, it's just that a lot of those roles come my way. But the way I see it, people seem to think I'm good at portraying dark characters, and I'll take that as a compliment." -- from Yahoo!, October 13, 2012
