Joe Francis’ $40 million settlement halved

Wynn took the soft porn boss to court to answer accusations of slander after Francis publicly repeated claims that the businessman had threatened to kill him in an email.

The long-running legal dispute came to an end in September (12), with a Los Angeles jury awarding Wynn a $20 million (£12.5 million) settlement and another $20 million (£12.5 million) in punitive damages.

However, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Joanne O’Donnell has now ruled the settlement should be cut in half, reducing Francis’ bill to $19 million (£11.9 million) and eliminating the punitive damages which she decided stemmed from “the jury’s dislike of the defendant and/or his businesses,” according to the Associated Press.
