Carrie Fisher’s actress sister has gone to great lengths to save the late Star Wars icon’s final texts, so she’ll always have them to read.

Carrie died just after Christmas (Dec16) after suffering a massive heart attack on a flight to Los Angeles from London and her half-sister Joely Fisher now treasures the last correspondence she received from the veteran actress just before she set foot on the plane.

“They (texts) were from the night before she got on her fateful flight and I’ve saved them, screen shotted, backed them up onto, you know, other hard drives because, you know, I don’t ever want to lose them,” Joely told host Dr. Mehmet Oz in an interview which aired on Thursday (04May17).

“We talked about politics. We talked about our mothers, who were frail, both of them. And, our children and promised to see each other at Christmas, which I upheld. I was there… I think she knew I was there.”

Joely spent Christmas Day in the hospital with her sister, who died on 27 December (16), one day before her mother Debbie Reynolds, and the Inspector Gadget star admits she really misses Carrie.

“I miss her around,” she said. “I miss being able to call and, you know, make a joke about politics, frankly, anything.”

And the actress is using her sister’s death to inspire her to be the best person she can be: “I think you either go dark or you go funny,” she explained. “You could lose yourself in tragedy and in sort of your own demons and she was determined not to. I’m finding that not only were people fans, they looked to her for solace and for finding the funny and for knowing that if she could survive, that they could. And with her not surviving, they’re looking for me.”
