John Coltrane’s saxophone added to the Smithsonian

One of John Coltrane’s tenor saxophones has been donated to the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History by his son Ravi. The donation on Wednesday (26Mar14) will coincide with the 50th anniversary of Coltrane’s composition A Love Supreme.
In addition to the instrument, photographer Chuck Stewart is giving the museum several never-before-seen pictures from the recording session in 1964.
The manuscript for A Love Supreme will also be displayed in the museum’s American Stories exhibit until June (14).
