Johnny Depp Almost Died in a Plane Crash

In an interview with Life magazine, Johnny Depp recounted the details of a near-death experience he shared with Rum Diary director, Bruce Robinson. The two of them were flying back to Los Angeles when, for some unknowable reason, the plane just decided to shut down in midair. Depp recalls the event, stating, “The sound of the engines stopped. There was silence. Bruce and I were looking at each other and I think I said, ‘Is this it?’ It was like this weird extended moment when you’re just floating for a second and you could feel this unpleasant descent.” But the Oscar-nominated actor didn’t panic in the face of danger and was ready to greet death with a laugh. “Nobody said a word except for Bruce and I, sitting next to each other saying, ‘Oh sh-t! This is death; I guess this is how it goes down. Then we burst into hysterical laughter at the idea that this was how we were going to die,” he added.

Thankfully the engines started back up again and we still live in a world where Johnny Depp exists. However, Depp did admit that the scare brought him and Bruce much closer together, saying, “I guess you could say that was a big bonding experience for Bruce and me. For a moment there, we were going down together.” Either way, we’re just glad our favorite Hollywood star will live to act another day, although he may want to stick to traveling by car or train for the time being (just to make sure feel better).
