Jones is a dad

The comedian/director and his girlfriend Anna Soderstrom, who is 41 years his junior, welcomed daughter Siri last month (Sep09).

Jones left his wife Alison Telfer, who he married in 1970, after meeting and falling for undergraduate Soderstrom in 2004.

Sally and Bill, the comedian/director’s grown-up children with Telfer, were said to have been upset at the pregnancy announcement and Jones was branded “selfish” by U.K. tabloids for bringing a child into the world in his twilight years.

But the funnyman is adamant he’ll do his best to provide Siri with a happy childhood.

He tells Radio Times, “It doesn’t worry me what anyone says, except when publicity hurts others. I’ve yet to discover how I like having another child as she’s only just born. Anna and I talked about it, obviously, before we decided.

“I don’t think people who have children are acting selfishly or unselfishly. Having a child who’ll be loved, to parents who love each other, is the important thing. I’ve a reasonable chance of living another 20 years, and hope I do, so Siri will be in her 20s.”
