Brave beats Bourne in U.K. box office race

The new Disney-Pixar movie – which features the voice of Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald – claimed the top spot in the U.K. and Ireland in its first week of release with takings of more than $8.3 million (£5.2 million), putting it ahead of The Bourne Legacy, which entered the chart in second place with $7.4 million (£4.6 million).

Seth MacFarlane’s comedy film Ted slipped to third spot after two weeks at number one, but its earnings of $3.2 million (£2 million) put it ahead of another new entry – The Expendables 2, which opened in fourth place with just over $3 million (£1.9 million).

The top five is rounded out by Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises, with $2.4 million (£1.5 million).
