Biography

Born in Lugo, Spain,Julio Fernandez moved to Barcelona in the late 1960s and has since become one of Spain's most influential and notable film producers. He is the head of Filmax Entertainment and began producing such European films as "Parella de tres," "Last Cut," and "The Sea Change" in the mid-to-late-90s. He achieved cult success in 2000 by producing, "Bride of Re-Animator" director, Brian Yuzna's "Faust." Fernandez continued to produce horror films like "Second Name" and "Arachnid" under the Fantastic Factory division of Filmax during the early 2000s while also backing dramatic films such as "Nowhere" and "Valentin." He achieved international, cross-over success in 2004 with the dark, brooding independent feature "The Machinist," which starred a sickly thin Christian Bale. The film propelled Fernandez's career as a producer and turned Filmax Entertainment into an international distributor of commercially viable and critically acclaimed independent films. He and Filmax continued to churn out unnerving features in the mid-to-late-2000s such as "The Abandoned," "Rec," and "Quarantine." He is credited as one of the executive producers on 2008's sleeper hit "Transsiberian" and served as a producer on Emilio Estevez's epic adventure "The Way" in 2010.
