Kate Hudson adopting ‘genderless’ approach to raise daughter

Kate Hudson is planning to adopt a “genderless” approach in raising daughter Rani Rose.
The 39-year-old actress gave birth to her baby girl, her first child with boyfriend Danny Fujikawa, in October (18). She is also mother to sons Ryder, 15, and seven-year-old Bingham from previous relationships, and was asked in an interview with AOL if she does anything differently when it comes to parenting a daughter rather than sons.
“(Having a daughter) doesn’t really change my approach, but there’s definitely a difference,” Kate mused. “I think you just raise your kids individually regardless – like a genderless (approach). We still don’t know what she’s going to identify as.”
The Almost Famous star went on to add that her daughter is already showing signs of being “incredibly feminine” – despite being just three months old.
“I will say that, right now, she is incredibly feminine in her energy, her sounds and her way,” she smiled. “It’s very different from the boys, and it’s really fun to actually want to buy kids’ clothes.
“With the boys it was just like onesies… actually, I did pretty good with the boys. But with her it’s a whole other ball game. There’s some stuff that I’m like, ‘I can’t do that to her, because it’s so over-the-top.”
Kate isn’t the only celebrity to choose to raise her child as gender neutral. Russell Brand, Zoe Saldana and Will Smith have also adopted a similar approach to raising their children.
Speaking to Us Weekly last June, Zoe opened up about her parenting approach, and explained: “We have a very gender neutral environment where my husband participates in a lot of tasks that were normally given to women and vice versa. I get to do a lot of male things, which is, I don’t know, put the TV together, fix things that break. We’re so of a very gender fluid household. I think it’s important to raise boys in that environment and girls as well.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy actress is mother to sons Bowie, Cy and Zen with husband Marco Perego.
