Actress Kate Mulgrew helped raise $3,000 (£1,875) for a theatre group by auctioning off a dinner date with herself as part of a special gala on Monday (16Mar15). The Orange Is the New Black star was honoured along with playwright Kenneth Lonergan at the Gingold Theatrical Group’s Golden Shamrock Gala, and she was determined to join in the fun.
She took to the stage at the close of the event in New York and surprised organisers and guests by announcing she was offering up the chance to share a home-cooked meal at her apartment in Manhattan.
The prize attracted a winning bid of $3,000, according to the New York Daily News.
The Gingold Theatrical Group specialises in staging plays focusing on human rights issues.
