It’s been a tough few weeks for Kathy Bates. The 64-year-old actress, who most recently starred in Midnight in Paris and The Office, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, People reports. After doctors discovered a lump in her breast a few weeks ago and “after much consideration,” Bates — who beat ovarian cancer in 2003 — underwent a double mastectomy.
“Luckily, I don’t have to undergo radiation or chemo,” Bates told People. “My family calls me Kat because I always land on my feet, and thankfully this is no exception.”
Bates won’t be slowed down by her operation. The upbeat and positive actress still plans to attend the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 23. “My doctors have assured me I’m going to be around for a long time,” she said. “I’m looking forward to getting back to work and doing what I love to do.”
Hollywood.com has yet to hear back from Bates’ rep.
