Katie Holmes’ Broadway Play Closes 7 Weeks Early

Katie Holmes

It has not been the best week for the genetic vessels whose union was fated to bring unto the Earth the goddess we know as Suri Cruise. First, Tom Cruise’s action-thriller Jack Reacher failed to overpower its Middle-earthian opposition. And now, Suri’s mother Katie Holmes is facing the news that her Broadway play, Dead Accounts, will be closing seven weeks ahead of schedule.

E! reports that the stage dramedy will be winding down production on Jan. 6 (previous plans were to run through Feb. 24), presumably in light of mixed reviews and unsubstantial ticket sales. With the casting of Hollywood A-listers in Broadway productions becoming more and more commonplace, a big name like Holmes’ no longer guarantees the gargantuan spectatorship it might have in years past.

Dead Accounts comes from Smash creator Theresa Rebeck and is directed by established stage visionary Jack O’Brien. The story tells of a woman (Holmes) whose long-estranged brother (Norbert Leo Butz) returns to their Ohio home with a secret.
