Katy Perry Gets 9 VMA Nominations

katy perryBaby, she’s a Firework!  Katy Perry leads the way to the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards with nine nominations, topping all her other contenders.  The California singer earned three nominations for her Firework clip, including Video of the Year and Best Female Video.  Perry’s also up for Best Collaboration and Best Direction for E.T. which features fellow nominee, Kanye West.  Looks like this Teenage Dream star’s success rate is quite literally out of this world.

Kanye followed close behind Perry tying for second place with seven nominations alongside British singer Adele for her chart-topping hit Rolling in the Deep.  The ever popular Bruno Mars earned four nominations in total, followed by Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj and Eminem, all with three each.  Now the big question remaining is which songs will be squaring off for the top prize, Video of the Year?  The music video showdown will be between, Rolling in the Deep, Firework, Tyler, The Creator’s Yonkers, Mars’s Grenade, and the Beastie Boys’ Make Some Noise.

The public can vote for general VMA categories, including Best New Artist vma.mtv.com.  The show airs live Aug. 28 on MTV at 9 p.m. ET.  For a full list of all the nominees, click here.
