Biography

Although Ken Berry got his start as a dancer and singer, he is probably most well-known for his numerous comedic roles on television, especially working with Carol Burnett and Vickie Lawrence on their respective shows. Berry's first television appearances, besides appearing as himself on variety shows like Ed Sullivan's "Toast of the Town," were on "The Ann Sothern Show" as a bellhop named Woody and on the sitcom "Harrigan and Son." His big break, though, arrived when he landed a regular role on the Old West comedy program "F Troop." After the demise of that Civil-War-era sitcom, Berry went on to appear on a few episodes of the beloved "The Andy Griffith Show" before it ended its run in 1968. He would subsequently star in the spinoff show "Mayberry R.F.D.." But his most memorable performances were appearing as one of Carol Burnett's frequent guests on her popular skit comedy program "The Carol Burnett Show" and on the later spinoff sitcom "Mama's Family," where he played the dim-witted Vinton Harper, son to Vickie Lawrence's imposing Thelma. Berry also appeared in two of Disney's live-action movies from the 1970s, "Herbie Rides Again" and "The Cat from Outer Space."
