A Canadian actor of formidable stature, Kevin Durand has become a go-to tough guy in both film and television productions. Adept at giving his characters an unsettling jolt of malice, he is often cast in villainous roles. However, his first major screen part was as a determined hockey player in the sports drama "Mystery, Alaska" (1999), which he followed with a series of TV gigs. Attempting to secure more of a foothold in movies, Durand finally won wider attention back on the small screen with a sinister recurring turn on "Lost" (ABC, 2004-2010), and proceeded to land more prominent roles in high-profile films.

St. Ignatius High School

Cast in the fourth season of "Lost" (ABC) as antagonist Martin Keamy

Co-starred with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale in "3:10 to Yuma," a Western directed by James Mangold

Joined the cast of Fox's "Dark Angel" as Joshua

Landed a recurring role on the sci-fi series "Stargate SG-1" (Showtime)

Re-teamed with Roach to play a hockey player in "Mystery, Alaska"

Bonus Trivia

Durand is a good friend of Russell Crowe. The two have appeared in numerous movies together, including "Mystery, Alaska," "3:10 to Yuma" and "Robin Hood."

Durand has dabbled in hip-hop and performed as a rapper with Russell Crowe's band, 30 Odd Foot of Grunts.

"I'm definitely gearing more toward film. I like the fact that I can play a character for a week or four months and then switch everything up. But you never know. 'Lost' was really fun. If I can have that experience in any genre, I'd take it." -- from USA Today, May 27, 2008

"As an actor, I’ve been all over the map, but since I’ve moved to Hollywood, people tend to cast me in these more imposing characters, which is actually really fun for me. I’ve always been way more attracted to playing that than the hero. I’ve always been more intrigued by Iago in 'Shakespeare' than playing Romeo. That was always boring to me." -- from Collider, Feb. 23, 2011

"It’s always so much more interesting to me, watching Gene Hackman – watching those classic guys who played bastard types. I could actually watch them and go, 'I bet that guy’s not that bad. I bet you this is just a moment in his life.' So for me to approach these menacing characters, I love to approach it just from the human side." -- from NOW Toronto, Oct. 6, 2011
