With Snow White and the Huntsman only a few days away from its release, America is anxiously waiting to see what Kristen Stewart will bring to the silver screen that doesn’t involve glittery vampires and ab-tastic werewolves. And while the actress isn’t usually so forthcoming during interviews, she actually had some pretty insightful things to say in her latest sit-down with Interview magazine (she graces the June/July 2012 cover with her SWATH co-star, Charlize Theron).
Though her off-hand attitude toward fame and the Hollywood life in general can come across as somewhat ungrateful or awkward at times, this 22-year-old star is actually completely down to earth and just enjoys working on her craft more than anything else. “People think that I’m really untouchable, and that’s also translated into a lot of people thinking that I’m super-ungrateful,” Stewart tells the magazine. “I think people are used to seeing actors be wide open and desperately giving of themselves, and while I do that on a movie set as much as I can, it’s so unnatural for me to do it on television, in interviews, in anything like that.”
So don’t expect her to be giving a tell-all interview anytime soon, especially concerning her personal life with a certain Twilight heartthrob (Robert Pattinson). “I don’t find that my process as an actor is really anyone else’s business,” Stewart remarks. “I mean there’s that awesome quote where Joanne Woodward said, ‘Acting is like sex: you should do it, not talk about it.'”
This insightful mindset got us thinking about how much we actually like Kristen Stewart (no, seriously) and her candid attitude toward the glitz and glamor of the spotlight. So in honor of her honest words, here are eight more quotes that not only make us like her, but respect her as well.
“I’m obsessed with my cat,” Stewart told People magazine in 2010. “We have a really strong, really weird codependent, almost Bella/Edward relationship. I’m going to be a crazy cat lady one day, I’m sure.” (We’re cat people in this office, so no judgements here!)
“I don’t want to be a movie star like Angelina Jolie,” Stewart told Blackbook magazine in 2009. “Nothing about being a celebrity is desirable. I’m an actor. It’s bizarre to me that everybody’s so obsessive.” Obsession is a fan’s prerogative, but there’s just something refreshing about an A-List celeb who doesn’t want to be famous.
“I would never cheapen my relationships by talking about them,” she told Elle magazine in 2010. It may drive us crazy, but it’s a healthy philosophy to have.
“I’ve always had an aversion to looking sexy. But I’ve grown out of it,” Stewart told Nylon magazine in 2009. You go girl.
“A lot of actors think that what we do is so important, like we’re saving people’s lives or something,” Stewart has said about the joys of the celebrity world. Sadly, some actors really do think like that.
“I think romance is anything honest. As long as it’s honest, it’s so disarming,” she told Harper’s Bazaar in 2009. This girl is definitely mature beyond her years.
On first loves: “Everybody says the first cut is the deepest. It’s so true. I don’t know if it’s because it’s the best love, but it’s the first that you remember.” Who knew Stewart could be so sentimental?
“I’m about to play an emaciated pregnant vampire, so I’ve stopped using as much butter as Paula Deen – just until Breaking Dawn is over,” Stewart told People magazine in 2010. We appreciate a girl who has her butter priorities in order.
