An online catfight has broken out between local L.A. journalist, Pam Morrison, and Almost Famous actress, Zooey Deschanel. It all started when Morrison wrote an opinion piece that was published on the LA Times website on Sunday where the writer states, “I can’t believe Zooey Deschanel is really the snobby cow she came off sounding like Saturday evening.” Morrison’s comment stems from how, at the BAFTAs on Saturday night (which Duke and Duchess William and Kate attended) Deschanel appeared to have told USA Today that, “I just don’t want them to see the worst of L.A.,” which referred to an area near the Belasco Theatre that was ridden with uncollected trash.
Deschanel responded to these accusations on her Tumblr and hellogiggles.com and corrected several errors in Morrison’s so called “facts.” The actress put the journalist in her place saying, “Let me be clear, the quote from USA TODAY that you used as the foundation of your piece, was taken completely out of context. I NEVER said Downtown LA was “the worst of LA.” I did make a reference to a parking lot adjacent to the theater that had a lot of trash in it in an attempt to be humorous. I simply said, “it’s funny they brought royalty here, there is a parking lot with trash around the corner.” Deschanel doesn’t hold back her utter contempt for the writer and spats, “I am completely and utterly shocked that a professional journalist, whom I have never met, would take a partial quote out of context, and use it as the basis for a misguided personal attack.”
Morrison has offered no sign of an apology, but did respond calling Deschanel “a talented and charming actress” who she hopes will “head back to greater downtown L.A. one of these days.” The actress has since alerted her 400,000+ Twitter followers to the piece which sent a series of online hate tweets in Morrison’s general direction. The claws are out for these ladies and if things keep heating up like this, we can expect a long (500) Days of Summer.
