UPDATE: According to TMZ, where staffers have spent the last day calling every rehab facility they can think of, Odom has is not in rehab. “Sources connected to the NBAer” confirm the fact to TMZ.
EARLIER: Lamar Odom has checked himself into rehab for drug and alcohol abuse following a whirlwind of headlines and rumors that culminated in his DUI arrest last week, People reports. According to People, the NBA veteran has “realized he needs help” fighting his demons, which have alledgedly caused a great deal of problems between him and his wife, Khloe Kardashian. Both Odom and his father have suffered from substance abuse issues in the past, which the former reality star has spoken about several times.
The decision to seek treatment comes after a tumtultuous week for Odom, which included his arrest and several reports that he had gone missing for days. It was later revealed by his agent, Jeff Schwartz, that Odom had been hiding from the attention in a Los Angeles hotel. Through all of this, there have been no public statements made by Kardashain or her family, and rumors of a spearation between the two have become more prominent than ever.
Odom is still facing a Sept. 27 court date for his DUI as well as a custody battle with his ex-girlfriend over the former couple’s two kids. He is also dealing with a great deal of career uncertainity after the Clippers declined to re-sign him in the wake of the scandal.
