The 76-year-old anchorman filed papers in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday (14Apr10), citing “irreconcilable differences” for the collapse of his 13-year marriage.
The couple has two sons together, 11-year-old Chance and nine-year-old Cannon, and King is seeking joint custody of the kids.
His lawyer, Susan Carter, tells TMZ.com, “It’s a very sad day in Larry’s life and he hopes the divorce will be amicable.”
Southwick, 50, was King’s seventh wife and the divorce will be his eighth – he split from Alene Aknis in 1962 and remarried her in 1967, only for the pair to part ways again in 1972.
Southwick has also filed her own divorce papers, in which she asks for primary physical custody of the couple’s kids, as well as spousal and child support.
She is also citing irreconcilable differences.
