Laura Harrier & Danielle Macdonald head campaign to promote eco-friendly Oscar dresses

Blackkklansman star Laura Harrier and Bird Box actress Danielle Macdonald are spearheading a campaign to promote eco-friendly fashion at the Oscars.
The two women have agreed to take the Red Carpet Green Dress Challenge at the Academy Awards later this month (24Feb19).
The initiative was launched over a decade ago by actress-turned-activist Suzy Amis Cameron, who annually encourages A-listers to sport pieces made from sustainable materials to the big event.
“Sustainable living is important to me so it’s very exciting that I’ll be able to apply that sensibility to the dress that I’ll wear to the Oscars this year for BlacKkKlansman,” Harrier tells People. “Suzy’s efforts are so commendable and I’m thrilled to join the Red Carpet Green Dress campaign for the 10th Anniversary.”
Macdonald is also excited to be part of the movement, adding, “I’m so honoured to be a part of Red Carpet Green Dress this year. I believe it is a powerful initiative and allows designers to think outside the box to create environmentally-friendly fashion. I am thrilled to be a part of such a positive movement to help create the change I want to see in this world.”
Harrier will be attending the Oscars to support Spike Lee’s drama, which is up for Best Picture, Best Score and Best Director, among a slew of nominations, while Macdonald will be there representing Skin, which is up for the Short Film (Live Action) award.
“I can’t believe it has been 10 years since RCGD was born,” Cameron says. “It has been an incredible journey and inspiring to see how the campaign has grown every year. I am so proud of helping people become more aware of what sustainable fashion can look like and its impact on the planet.
“What we wear has a tremendous impact on the environment and people’s choices can move the marketplace and the climate change needle.”
