Lauren Cohan almost quit The Walking Dead over gory Caesarean scene

Actress Lauren Cohan almost quit hit TV drama The Walking Dead because she didn’t think she’d be able to perform a Caesarean section onscreen.
The star, who portrays Maggie Greene in the zombie series, admits one bloody scene in season three almost made her turn her back on the show.
The sequence in question featured her character, the daughter of a doctor, helping to save an unborn child by cutting open the mother’s abdomen, but just reading about the gory scene turned Lauren’s stomach – and prompted her to seek advice from her co-star Steven Yeun, who plays her onscreen husband, Glenn.
“I knock on Steven’s door and I said I have to leave the show, I don’t think I can do it,” she admits on an upcoming episode of Inside the Actors Studio. “It affects you so deeply to the core to touch on – to dive into so much of this material and then I realised that’s why I have to do it because the outcome of that, as heinous and as sleeplessly that affected me…, we watch to feel and to hopefully, honestly portray something.”
“Bad stuff happens and what’s the point in not getting real about it?” she continued. “Ironically enough, as hard as this is, the deeper you go into it, you just have to let all that resistance go, then it’s easier, the kind of shakedown afterwards – I always feel like a rattlesnake coming out of its skin because you lost a part of yourself that ended up being something you really didn’t want.”
Talking of his onscreen bond with Lauren, Yeun adds, “It is a joy to work together because we’ve built some really cool stuff. We’ve had some great moments. We’ve had some gnarly moments… (but) it was fun to live out a pseudo-relationship on screen.”
