Laverne Cox achieves impossible dream with hit song

Actress-turned-singer Laverne Cox has achieved a personal milestone with her hit song Beat for the Gods.
The Orange is the New Black star and transgender advocate released her debut track last month (Mar18), which entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 41.
For Cox, reaching an audience through song is a dream realised.
“It’s a dream come true that I didn’t know I had to hit the Billboard charts for the first time,” she said in an interview with Billboard. “I guess every kid sort of wants to be a pop star. I sang and wrote songs for fun as a kid but I never really thought I could do that.”
The 45-year-old, who initially doubted she could embark on a music career, has found her early success on the charts humbling.
“I resigned myself to the fact that I act and dance a little but don’t sing or do music,” she revealed. “It’s a dream I didn’t think was possible for me that I let go of. For years I have looked to the Billboard charts to see what’s hot in music. To have my first single appear on the charts I grew up with is beyond special. It’s humbling and beautiful.”
