Lea Michele Tells Harper’s Bazaar ‘Glee’ Is ‘Only The Beginning’

lea micheleWe may know her as the fame hungry, spotlight stealing Rachel Berry from Fox’s hit Glee, but Lea Michele is ready to show the world that she plans to be a jack of all trades in the entertainment biz. Even though her character is slated to graduate at the end of this upcoming season which could signal her eventual exit, Michele firmly states that she has no intention of slowing down post-Glee. The actress explained in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar for their September issue, “I don’t stop. It’s my nature…people have to tell me to slow down. I plan on playing every role on Broadway… I want to do movies, make music. ‘Glee’ is only the beginning.”

Fame has had its ups and downs for Michele. Even when she first got her start on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning show Spring Awakening, she was criticized for her unconventional looks, but she doesn’t allowed herself to conform to the typical Hollywood beauty standards. When describing her looks the star admits, “I’m five foot three. I don’t look like a lot of other people… I look like I’m 12,” also adding, “How many managers told me, ‘Get a nose job. You’re not pretty enough’? But I proved them wrong.” I have to commend her for embracing her imperfections instead of surrendering to the Hollywood peer pressure. There was even an episode in Glee where Lea’s character considers getting a nose job, but ends up realizing that flaws are what make us unique and doesn’t go through with the procedure. Taking a leaf out of her ultimate role model’s book — Barbra Streisand‘s portrayal of Fanny Brice — this girl is going to let nothing or no one rain on her parade.
