Led Zeppelin accuser files appeal in copyright case

Led Zeppelin’s legal drama continues as the man who lost a copyright infringement lawsuit against the band over Stairway to Heaven has filed an appeal.
Michael Skidmore accused songwriters Jimmy Page and Robert Plant and their publishers of stealing the song’s famous opening guitar riff from an instrumental written by the late Randy Wolfe, whose estate he oversees.
A jury ruled the defendants were not liable for infringing the Spirit song Taurus last month (Jun16), but now Skidmore’s attorney Francis Malofiy is hoping for a different outcome after filing a notice of appeal in the case.
Malofiy suggested they would be appealing in June (16) after the verdict was read, telling TheWrap, “there are many appealable issues” in the case.
Meanwhile, Page and Plant were glad to get the legal issue behind them after winning the lawsuit, with a statement which read: “We are grateful for the jury’s conscientious service and pleased that it has ruled in our favor, putting to rest questions about the origins of Stairway to Heaven and confirming what we have known for 45 years. We appreciate our fans’ support, and look forward to putting this legal matter behind us.”
