Biography

Leona Roberts worked in a variety of genres and built up a diverse and reputable career. Roberts kickstarted her acting career in various films such as "Bringing Up Baby" (1938), "Condemned Women" (1938) and the comedy adaptation "Having Wonderful Time" (1938) with Ginger Rogers. She also appeared in "Kentucky" (1938) with Loretta Young, the Walter Huston drama "Of Human Hearts" (1938) and "The Affairs of Annabel" (1938). She kept working in film throughout the thirties and the forties, starring in the Ginger Rogers comedy "Bachelor Mother" (1939), the Vivien Leigh blockbuster dramatic adaptation "Gone With the Wind" (1939) and the dramatic musical "Swanee River" (1939) with Don Ameche. She also appeared in the Raymond Massey adaptation "Abe Lincoln in Illinois" (1940), "Blondie Plays Cupid" (1940) and "Comin' Round the Mountain" (1940). During the latter part of her career, she tackled roles in "Golden Gloves" (1940), the crime flick "Queen of the Mob" (1940) with Ralph Bellamy and "The Blue Bird" (1940) with Shirley Temple Black. She also appeared in "Thou Shalt Not Kill" (1940), the Francis Lederer crime feature "The Madonna's Secret" (1946) and the documentary "Boomerang" (1947) with Dana Andrews. Roberts last acted in "Chicago Deadline" (1949) with Alan Ladd.
