Les Paul and Chet Atkins’ iconic guitars up for auction

Guitars belonging to music legends Les Paul and Chet Atkins are to go up for auction next month (Feb15). Paul’s original prototype for the Black Beauty model of Gibson’s Les Paul and Atkins’s Gretsch Dark Eyes electric guitar will go under the hammer at the Arader Galleries in New York City.
A statement from Guernsey’s Auction House, the organisation behind the sale, reads, “It is by no means a coincidence that both of these black guitars have joined forces once again via this auction, for they each spawned the modern electric offerings of the Gibson and Gretsch guitar companies.”
Paul is credited as one of the pioneers of electric guitar, while Atkins was recruited as a design consultant for instrument giant Gretsch at the height of his music career in the 1950s.
