Despite his advanced years--he was 50 at the dawn of the sound era--Stone continued to play gentlemanly leads, often appearing opposite Greta Garbo, and eventually evolved into a dependable character player of numerous MGM productions, notably as Judge Hardy in the "Andy Hardy" series.
