Lil Mama apologises following arrest

Singer/actress Lil Mama has apologised for her “irresponsible” actions following her speeding arrest early Thursday morning (10Mar16).
The Lip Gloss rapper was pulled over by police officers in Harlem, New York, where they caught her going over the speed limit, according to E! News. She was in even further trouble after cops realised her driving license had been revoked due to another speeding summons that went unaddressed in 2013.
A spokesperson for the New York Police Department tells E! News that Lil Mama, real name Niatia Jessica Kirkland, is facing charges of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, violation of local law and driving without a license.
Later on Thursday, she released a statement showing remorse over her actions, insisting she will work with authorities to have the issue quickly resolved.
The statement reads: “I would like to apologize to my family, friends and fans for my actions last night. I made a mistake and it was totally irresponsible of me to drive without a valid drivers license. My actions do not in any way reflect who I am as a person.
“As I move forward, I have learned a valuable lesson and understand the consequences for my actions which resulted in my arrest. I appreciate the support and the concern for my well being during this time. I have worked very hard, and I would like to continue to be a role model for young women and men.
“With that being said, I accept full responsibility for my actions and will take the necessary measures to have this quickly resolved and corrected.”
