Linda Perry and Pat Benatar team up for hard-hitting film anthem

Rockers Pat Benatar and Linda Perry have joined forces to create the theme for a new documentary about the Ms. Veteran America pageant.
Director Lysa Heslov recruited Perry to write the song Dancing Through the Wreckage for her film Served Like A Girl, and the former 4 Non Blondes star asked Benatar to sing it.
The new film also raises awareness about the plight of homeless female veterans in America.
Perry tells Billboard she was really moved when Heslov sent her footage from the movie, and asked if she would be interested in writing the end-title theme.
“My thought process was, ‘What the hell? You have these women who are raising their hand to protect and serve and there’s no support for them at all?’,” Perry says. “They end up homeless.”
The rocker had just co-written Shine for January’s Women’s March movement with Benatar and her husband Neil Giraldo and she felt the Love is a Battlefield singer had the perfect voice for Dancing Through the Wreckage.
“When I was younger, I remember singing (Benatar hit) Heartbreaker. When it came on the radio, I was like ‘What is this? This is awesome!'” Perry adds. “She (Benatar) came representing something. There was nothing vague about what she was going to accomplish. She entered and she entered strong. She’s one of the biggest female empowerment women out there.”
Served Like A Girl opens in select U.S. cinemas on Friday (25Aug17).
