Mark Twain gravesite plaque stolen

New York police officials have launched an investigation into the theft of a plaque memorialising the final resting place of American author Mark Twain. The bronze plate, which features the likeness of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn writer, is believed to have been stolen from a monument at his gravesite in Woodlawn Cemetery between Christmas Day (25Dec14) and New Year’s Day (01Jan15).
The granite structure was commissioned by Twain’s daughter, Clara, and featured two plaques – one in honour of her father, and the other for her late husband. That plate remains untouched.
Twain died in 1910.
