Mark Wahlberg Says 9/11 ‘Wouldn’t Have Gone Down Like It Did’ If He Was on the Plane

mark wahlbergThere’s no denying that Mark Wahlberg is a terrific actor. I still get freaked out watching him play Reese Witherspoon‘s psycho-boyfriend in Fear. He’s also been in plenty of action movies where he’s played the conquering hero, which might explain why Marky Mark’s ego is getting a little out of control these days. In a recent interview with Men’s Journal, the actor discussed how things may have gone down a little differently had he been on one of the airplanes that was hijacked on 9/11. In fact, he believes he could have prevented the crash from ever happening. (Note: he was originally scheduled to be on one of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center, which was how the subject was broached).

To put it in his exact words, Wahlberg told the magazine, “If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’” Now granted, it’s nice that his initial instinct would be to save everyone on the plane, but it just comes off as really insensitive — like he’s saying that the people on those flights didn’t do enough to prevent the tragedy from happening. Just because he’s played the bad-ass action hero in movies, it doesn’t mean he’s superior to everyone else. We don’t know what it was like for the folks on those planes, so for him to say he would’ve done things different is a huge insult to their memory.

Granted, he may not have meant to come across in such a crass way, but he should know by now to watch the way he words things, especially when dealing with such sensitive subject matter.
