Marlo Thomas immortalised with new hospital wing

Actress Marlo Thomas has been honoured with her own educational wing at the children’s hospital her father founded in Memphis, Tennessee in 1962. Former U.S. First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was on hand to pay tribute to the That Girl star on Thursday (20Nov14) at the unveiling of the Marlo Thomas Center of Global Education and Collaboration at the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The building dedication took place four days before Thomas heads to the White House to collect the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honour, which is given to those who have made contributions to the security or national interests of the U.S. She will join the likes of Meryl Streep, Stephen Sondheim and Stevie Wonder among this year’s (14) 19 recipients.
Thomas serves as National Outreach Director for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and leads the annual Thanks & Giving campaign to raise funds for the medical centre throughout the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday period.
Her father, comedian Danny Thomas, died in 1991.
