Mary Hart To Leave ‘Entertainment Tonight’

mary hartAfter putting in 28 years of “is she pregnant or is she just in love?” and “inside Jacko’s monkey cage!” Mary Hart is leaving Entertainment Tonight. The former Miss South Dakota joined the show in 1982, which I cannot verify myself because I wasn’t born yet, so technically I can only give her credit for her service from ’86 onwards. I don’t think she’ll really care, because those first few years must have been utter chaos — you know how it is…the ’70s lingered a little.

In a statement, she said “I’ve reached a point when I clearly realize it’s time for a change. There are many things I want to do in my life and I’d better get on with them. It will certainly be with mixed sentiments that I say ‘goodbye’ at the end of the season, but it will definitely be with a sense of celebration.” I bet it will. I’m sure she’s tired of being the spokeswoman for ruching around the cleavage.

No decision has been made on who’ll replace Hart, but someone better get on it because the show premieres on September 13th…and they’ve got to take down all those blimp-sized advertisements of her with Mark Steines before that to assert the news is a punctual and otherwise accurate entity. As for Hart, she doesn’t know what she’s going to do next…but she’s already blond and smiley, which means she certainly won’t be a circle trying to fit into a square peg.
