Hollywood actor and comedian Mel Brooksnew memoir, All About Me! My Remarkable Life in Show Business, is set to release on November 30, 2021. In the book, the 95-year-old comedian shares his journey as a child growing up in the Great Depression and his rise to fame.

Mel Brooks defined a generation of performers

Along with writing, Mel Brooks directed many comedy films. His most popular movies include The Twelve Chairs, Blazing Saddles, The Producers, Young Frankenstein, and Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Mel also starred in some of the films he directed, including Spaceballs, High Anxiety, and History of the World, Part I.

With the Hollywood success of The Producers and Young Frankenstein, Mel Brooks decided to adapt both films as musicals for the stage. The Producers went on to win 12 Awards at the 2001 Tony Awards. In 2005, the musical was adapted into a movie musical starring original Broadway cast members Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane.

Mel Brooks joins the small list of EGOT winners (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony), making him an influential performer in both the Hollywood and Broadway worlds.

Mel Brooks’ All About Me proves the intersection of Hollywood and Broadway

While Hollywood and Broadway are regarded as 2 entities, both industries cross over more than they stay separate. Many actors, directors, and writers have made the transition from Hollywood to Broadway and vice versa. Mel Brooks has successfully combined his experience writing scripts for stage musicals like New Faces of 1952 and Shinbone Alley with his comedy skills on TV sketch series like Your Show of Shows and Get Smart.

Mel Brooks has an impactful career because of his willingness to experiment with both Broadway and Hollywood. By sharing his experience with the 2 worlds in his memoir, he illustrates that the intersection of Hollywood and Broadway creates essential and meaningful art.

Mel Brooks talks about losing his wife Anne Bancroft

In All About Me, Mel Brooks also shares his love and admiration for his late wife, actress Anne Bancroft. The memoir gives readers an insight into their loving 40-year marriage. The 2 met when Anne was rehearsing at the Ziegfeld Theatre in 1961 and the couple got married 3 years later. “She always said, ‘Follow your heart. It will be a good adventure,’” Mel tells People Magazine. “What an adventure life turned out to be!”

Sadly, Anne passed away in 2005 due to uterine cancer. While Mel shares with People that living without her is “not easy,” he will never forget all of their special memories. “Anne supported me for the first couple of years of our marriage. She always believed in me,” he says.

Upcoming Mel Brooks’ projects

Deadline confirmed that Mel Brooks would write and executive produce a TV reboot of his 1981 film History of the World, Part I. The show will work as an 8-episode Hulu variety series. Nick Kroll and Wanda Sykes serve as producers.

All About Me! My Remarkable Life in Show Business drops on November 30.
