Meyer’s plagiarism case dismissed

Meyer was forced to defend herself in August (09) after Jordan Scott sent a cease and desist letter to the publishers of her 2008 novel Breaking Dawn, the fourth in the hit Twilight series, alleging it bears a “striking and substantial similarity” to Scott’s 2006 fantasy The Nocturne.

Meyer maintained the claims were “completely without merit”. However, Scott took the matter to court, seeking damages and an order to impound any Breaking Dawn copies up for sale.

A judge dismissed the suit on Thursday (03Dec09), calling Scott’s claims “deceptive”, adding she “twice manipulated aspects of the subject works in order to create the appearance of similarity”.

Earlier this year (09), Meyer was hit with a plagiarism lawsuit from her former college roommate Heidi Stanton, who claimed the hit vampire books were based on a short story she wrote while both women studied at Brigham Young University, Utah.
