Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers has reportedly checked into rehab in a bid to kick his drink demons once and for all.
It would be Meyers’ third attempt at rehab, in 2005 he spent time at Malibu, California’s Promises Clinic in a bid to get sober, and he underwent further treatment in April 2007.
However, he suffered a setback in November 2007 when he was arrested at Dublin Airport by Irish police and charged with being drunk and in breach of the peace. It later emerged that Meyers’ mother had died just days before his arrest.
The actor has previously spoken out about his battle with drinking, saying, “When I do (drink) I’m like Bambi. I’m all over the place, hopeless, like a 16-year-old kid. People notice.”
And an insider on the Tudors show claims producers warned Meyers about his alcohol intake during filming on the programme’s upcoming third season.
The source says, “He is one of the nicest guys in the world, he’s a pleasure to work with. He has his demons, and he’s trying to cope with them as best he can.”
