While the Republicans were gathering in Tampa, Fla. for The Republican National Convention, First Lady Michelle Obama was kickin’ it in the Big Apple with David Letterman. Mrs. Obama appeared on CBS’ Late Show with Letterman on Wednesday, where she discussed her plans for viewing the RNC. Spoiler! She doesn’t have any. “I, as the wife of the guy they’re running against, I tend not to watch it,” she told Letterman.
Despite her own reluctance to watch, Mrs. Obama encourages everyone to tune in, “But I think it’s important for everyone to watch these conventions, because this is the time you get to know the party, you understand the platform, you understand the candidates,” she said.”You know, this is technically where the campaign begins,” she continued. “So I think it’s very important for everyone to watch as much of both conventions as possible to make their decisions.”
Mrs. Obama also talked to Letterman about hosting the first-ever Kids’ State Dinner, which featured healthy recipes — including Letterman’s favorite, kale chips — submitted by kids from every state.
