Michelle Obama, of the fabulous new haircut and perfectly tailored wardrobe, doesn’t just turn heads every time she steps out in public, she makes headlines. Not since Jackie Kennedy Onassis have we had a First Lady so well known for her good fashion choices (sorry, Hillary, your headbands just don’t cut it). The proof: Anything she puts on her body sells out in stores instantly. Designer Tracy Reese got a sales boost after Michelle wore one of her designs to the Democratic National Convention, a knockoff version of the brocade Michael Kors dress Michelle wore on election night sold out in two days, and now you’d be hard-pressed to find the J. Crew belt she wore to the inauguration anywhere.

The Swearing In
For Barack Obama’s official swearing in ceremony, which took place on Sunday, Michelle was dressed in Reed Krakoff. Michelle chose a demure cardigan and a royal blue dress with a slight sheen. She finished off her professional look with low black pumps.
Inaugural Reception
Following Sunday’s swearing in, Michelle changed into a black sparkly Michael Kors dress that hit her just below the knee for a reception at the National Building Museum.
The Big Day
For Monday’s festivities, Michelle bundled up in a coat custom made for the FLOTUS by designer Thom Browne. Michelle jazzed up her coat with a bejeweled belt by J. Crew. Later in the day, Michelle removed the coat to reveal a matching Thom Browne silk jacquard navy and gray dress topped with another Reed Krakoff cardigan.
Dance the Night Away
For the Commander-in-Chief’s Ball Monday evening, Michelle returned to one of her go-to designers, Jason Wu. Wu — who also designed the white gown Michelle wore to the ball in 2009 — created a flowing red gown for the First Lady that nipped in at Michelle’s natural waist.
First Daughters
A fashion post about the inauguration would be remiss not to include the adorable looks put together by Malia and Sasha Obama, aged 14 and 11 respectively. The First Daughters color-coordinated in magenta and eggplant, with Malia in a J. Crew coat and dress while Sasha opted for head-to-toe Kate Spade.
Fashion Flashback
Four years ago, Michelle wore a custom Isabel Toledo coat and dress in lemongrass yellow, and then changed into the now-famous one-shouldered white Jason Wu gown for the ball.
