Mike Flanagan to direct The Shining sequel

Filmmaker Mike Flanagan has signed on to direct the sequel to Stephen King’s horror classic The Shining.
King’s bestselling novel Doctor Sleep, which was released in 2013, was previously adapted by Oscar winning writer Akiva Goldsman, but Flanagan is rewriting the script.
The sequel to director Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 thriller will concentrate on the life of Danny Torrance, the son of writer Jack Torrance, famously played by Jack Nicholson, years after the gruesome events at the Overlook Hotel.
Danny remains psychologically traumatised as his mother Wendy slowly recovers from her injuries. Meanwhile, angry ghosts from the Overlook Hotel still want to steal his phenomenal “shining” power and eventually track him down. Danny then develops a psychic link to a 12-year-old girl he must save after she gets involved with a sinister group.
This isn’t the first King project Flanagan has worked on – he previously directed Gerald’s Game, which was released on streaming service Netflix last year (17).
