Mobb Deep star dead at 42

Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy has died in Las Vegas, aged 42.
A publicist for the duo has confirmed the sad news, revealing the Quiet Storm hitmaker, real name Albert Johnson, was found unconscious on Tuesday morning (20Jun17).
“It is with extreme sadness and disbelief that we confirm the death of our dear friend Albert Johnson, better known to millions of fans as Prodigy of legendary NY rap duo Mobb Deep,” the statement to XXL reads.
“Prodigy was hospitalized a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth. The exact causes of death have yet to be determined. We would like to thank everyone for respecting the family’s privacy at this time.”
Prodigy formed Mobb Deep with bandmate Havoc in the early 1990s. They performed in Las Vegas on Saturday night (17Jun17) as part of the Art of Rap tour.
Hip-hop heavyweight Nas was among the first to pay tribute to the Mobb Deep star, tweeting: “QB RIP King P. Prodigy 4 Ever.”
