MSNBC Drops Keith Olbermann

Keith OlbermannFile this under girl-reads-headline, girl-hits-self-in-face, girl-screams-are-you-freaking-kidding-me-at-the-top-of-her-lungs. Because, really. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME? After finding that he’d contributed over $7,000 to three Democratic candidates last month, MSNBC has stupidly decided to suspend one of their aces in the hole, Keith Olbermann, indefinitely without pay.

Yes, I get that they are a news network and they likely want to avoid becoming the Fox News of the liberal media, but guess what, MSNBC, you kind of already are. How about you embrace it, slap Olbermann on the wrist and brush it under the rug? It’s not like he’s the first political commentator to ever make a political contribution. And I don’t know about the rest of his viewers, but I’ve been pretty sure the entire time I’ve been watching his show that Olbermann was on the liberal side of things. It’s pretty damn obvious.

Then there’s the point that Olbermann’s show wasn’t exactly straight up news. Up until this week, he’s ended his episodes with a segment called “The Worst Person in the World.” I mean, come on. It’s a political commentary show. He’s supposed to have an opinion, and because he’s an actual person, he’s going to consistently fall on the side of a certain political ideology. He’s also been touted as the de facto commentator rival to Fox’s uber-conservative Bill O’Reilly. He’s not a political reporter. It’s his job to have an opinion and it’s a job he does well. It’s not rocket science, folks.
