MTV Awards Get Political: Sarah Jessica Parker Supports Obama in New Ad — VIDEO

sarah jessica parkerThis year’s 2012 MTV Movie Awards may have been filled with an array of highs and lows (in both the entertainment value and fashion sense) but one thing the show certainly wasn’t lacking in was it’s overall magnitude of star power. Many of Hollywood’s finest graced the stage to either present or accept an award, but one celeb chose to get political and decided to use the time to voice her support for President Barack Obama’s re-election. That someone would be Sarah Jessica Parker.

Though she wasn’t physically present at the awards show, the actress was showcased during a commercial break when the Obama campaign debuted its first national TV spot on Sunday night. The 30-second ad shows the Sex and the City star singing Obama’s praises and promoting her June 14 fundraiser for the president’s re-election campaign that’s taking place at Parker’s New York City house.

“The guy who ended the war in Iraq, the guy who says you should be able to marry anyone you want, the guy who created 4 million new jobs. That guy — President Obama — and his wife Michelle are coming to my house for dinner on June 14,” the actress says to the viewers, while encouraging them to go online for the chance to win tickets.

Can a celeb use her popularity to garner political votes for a presidential campaign? Yes she can! And she did so at quite the convenient time since several entertainment enthusiasts were undoubtedly tuning in for the MTV Movie Awards at that time. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour — who will be co-hosting the event with Parker — also got in on the action and released an online video of her own where she urges supporters to take part in the event.
